Horror Story – One Night at the Railway Station

A Night You’ll Never Forget

The night was unusually silent. The air carried a strange chill that seemed to creep into the bones of anyone who dared to stay outside. This is a story of one such night at a deserted railway station, a night that changed everything for a young traveller named Arjun.

In 2025, while travelling across India for work, Arjun found himself stranded at an old, isolated railway station far from the city lights. What started as a simple wait for the next train turned into a terrifying encounter that would haunt him for the rest of his life.

The Setting: An Abandoned Railway Station

Arjun had missed his connecting train due to a delayed bus. He arrived at Bhavanpur Railway Station, a place he had never heard of before. The clock on the station wall read 12:15 AM.

There was no crowd, no announcements, and not even a single tea stall open. Only a single dim yellow bulb flickered above the waiting bench, casting long, eerie shadows across the cracked concrete floor.

Arjun felt uneasy but brushed it off. He thought, “It’s just a quiet night. I’ll wait here for an hour, and then I’ll be on my way.”

The Mysterious Old Man

As Arjun sat on the wooden bench scrolling through his phone, he heard footsteps behind him. He turned to see an old man dressed in a tattered railway uniform.

“Son, what are you doing here at this hour?” the old man asked, his voice trembling.

“I missed my train. Waiting for the next one to arrive,” Arjun replied politely.

The old man’s expression darkened.
“You shouldn’t stay here. This station… It’s not safe after midnight.”

Arjun chuckled nervously.
“Why? Are there thieves around?”

The old man didn’t smile. He whispered, “Worse than thieves. There are things you don’t want to see.”

Before Arjun could ask anything more, the old man disappeared into the darkness of the platform without another word.

A Train with No Passengers

Around 12:45 AM, Arjun heard the distant sound of a train approaching. Relieved, he grabbed his bag and walked toward the edge of the platform.

As the train pulled in, he noticed something unusual: there were no passengers on board. Not a single soul.

The windows were dusty, and the compartments looked abandoned. Even stranger, the engine emitted no smoke, and there was no conductor or driver in sight.

Arjun hesitated but stepped back, deciding to wait for the next train instead.
As the train slowly left, he swore he heard faint cries and whispers coming from inside.

The Whispering Voices

Moments later, the air grew colder. A mist began to form on the platform, and Arjun’s breath turned visible in the icy air.

He heard voices, soft, indistinct whispers calling his name:
“Arjun… Arjun…”

His heart raced.
“Who’s there?” he shouted, his voice echoing through the empty station.

No reply.
Only the sound of a distant clock ticking.

Suddenly, he felt a cold hand on his shoulder.
He spun around, but no one was there.

The Truth About Bhavanpur Station

Terrified, Arjun grabbed his phone to call someone, but there was no signal. As he turned back toward the platform, he saw the old man again, standing near the station’s entrance.

The old man spoke urgently:
“Leave now! This station has been closed for 30 years. A train accident happened here long ago. Every soul that died that night never left this place.”

Arjun’s eyes widened.
“That can’t be true! I just saw a train pass by!”

The old man shook his head.
“You didn’t see a train. You saw their souls reliving their final journey.”

Before Arjun could respond, the mist thickened, and dozens of shadowy figures emerged on the platform. Their faces were pale, their eyes hollow, and their voices echoed in unison:
“Stay with us forever…”

The Escape

Arjun ran as fast as he could toward the station’s exit. The shadows chased him, their cold, bony hands reaching for him.

He stumbled, fell, and almost gave up when he heard a loud whistle in the distance, a real train this time.

Summoning all his strength, Arjun sprinted to the other platform and jumped onto the moving train just in time.

As the train sped away, he looked back.
The station had vanished.
There was only an empty field where Bhavanpur Railway Station once stood.

The Aftermath

When Arjun finally reached the city, he reported his experience to the local authorities. They revealed the truth:

Bhavanpur Station was indeed shut down decades ago after a horrific train collision killed over 100 passengers.

No trains stopped there anymore.
No one lived near the site.

But every year, on the same night, travellers reported seeing ghostly trains and hearing voices in the darkness.

Lessons Learned

Arjun never travelled alone at night again.
He always checked his routes carefully and avoided deserted stations.

This chilling experience reminded him and you that some places hold memories too powerful to fade.

If you ever find yourself alone at a railway station past midnight, ask yourself one question:
Is this a place for the living… or the dead?
